John C. Reese papers, 1913-1914.

The collection consists of the papers of John C. Reese from 1913-1914. Includes a handwritten commentary on Georgia politics by Georgia Governor Joseph M. Brown to John C. Reese, personal friend of Governor Brown. The letter and statements make clear their close relation and Brown's reservations about Clark Howell. The collection also includes several newspaper clippings concerning Governor Brown and a handwritten press release relating to Brown's candidacy against Senator Hoke Smith.

Clark Howell, editor, legislator, and politician, was born September 21,1863, in Barnwell County, South Carolina, and died November 14, 1936 in Atlanta, Georgia. After his father (Evan Park Howell) retired as publisher of the Atlanta Constitution, he replaced him and bought control of the newspaper in 1901, becoming editor-in-chief for 35 years.
